YEAR 1

Wow this term is flying! Grade ones have been learning to write procedural text. Students have learnt that procedural texts have 4 main parts; title, aim, what we need and steps/method. We have spent time talking about how to make jam sandwiches, making butter, pizza and even an art pieces.

Procedural text 1:

Title: How to make butter.
Aim: To make butter using cream.

What did we need:

• Cream
• Jar

Method:

First we poured cream into the jar until it was half full. Then we put the lid on the jar tightly. After that shake the jar for 2 minutes. Then we checked to see what was happening. Then we continued shaking for another 10 minutes until the cream separated in the solid butter and the buttermilk. Then we washed the buttermilk from the butter. Then place it in the fridge.

Our thought:

I thought making the butter was fun. (Dua)
I liked when we were holding and washing the butter. (Mahdi)
Making butter was easy. (Ajwa)
I like shaking the cream to make the butter. (Ayesha)
I liked taking the butter out of the jar. (Jasmine)
I liked making the butter so we could eat it. (Ali M.)
The butter looked like it was soft. (Manhoor)

Procedural text 2:

Title: Vegetable pizza
Aim: To make and eat a pizza

What did we need: bread, mushrooms, tomato paste, cheese, oregano, tomato, capsicum, knife, tongs, baking tray, baking paper

Method:

First, we squeezed the tomato paste onto our bread. Then we spread it with a knife. After that we added tomato, capsicum,oregano, mushrooms. Next we added cheese. Lastly we cooked the pizza. Finally, we ate the vegetable pizza.

During Art this term Grade ones have been creating pieces of art work but using paper in different ways. They also participated in school activities such as:

• ‘Book Week’ Pirate Dress up congratulation to Mahdi who won best dressed pirate but it was hard to choose because there were so many good pirate costumes. Well done to families for the great support.
• Day daffodil day, and
• Mad scientist dress up day. Congratulations to Awja for the best dressed scientist.

This term grade 1’s have also been presenting short weekly news on given topics, Make sure the students are following the tasks on the sheet sent home earlier in the term.
